Oliver is what is commonly called a "Hemingway Cat", a name given to cats with extra toes(polydactyl) because of how common they are to Ernest Hemmingway's estate. Hemmingway was a great lover of cats and even though he has passed away his estate still cares for more than 60 cats, many of them polydactyl. Oliver has a total of 24 toes with extras on both the back and front feet.

We adopted Oliver during a book signing for the book Hemingway's Cats. We invited the Animal Rescue Center to hold a cat adoption at the store during the book signing and we adopted Oliver during the event.

Many of our long time customers also remember another cat from the store, Aggie.

Aggie has retired from the book business and lives at home now.
